    Construction update: Southwest BRT

On April 8, crews will be switching traffic onto the newly completed detour, which will be in place for the 2018 construction season.

The pathway at the northwest corner of the intersection will remain closed until mid-April.

Crews will install permanent traffic lights at 14 Street/Heritage Drive S.W. next, and be working along 14 Street and on 90 Avenue, relocating utilities.

    14 Street & 90 Avenue S.W. traffic detour

On April 8, 2018, traffic will shift north onto a road detour. It will happen in phases, so we can finish the asphalt, signals and utility work. Pedestrian access on the south side of 90 Avenue S.W. will stay in place.Work will be underway from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Click here to see the interim detours on April 8 or see image below.

Northbound 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane:

    • The left turn lane, left-hand lane and right-hand lane will be closed.
    • There will be no left turns permitted at 90 Avenue on April 8, 2018 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Motorists can use Southland Drive S.W. and 24 Street S.W. as alternate routes. Signs will be out in advance of the intersection to notify motorists of this change.
Southbound 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane:
    • Left-hand lane will be closed
    • Right-hand lane for through traffic will remain open, and the exit onto 90 Avenue S.W. will be open.
Eastbound 90 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane:
    • One left hand turn lane onto northbound 14 Street S.W. will remain open. The right hand turn lane at 90 Avenue will remain open to access southbound 14 Street S.W.

The final traffic detour maintains the existing number of lanes – three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes on 90 Avenue, and all turning movements.  We are also building a temporary pathway for pedestrians and cyclists to get through the area safely. Click here to see the final traffic detour.

    Upcoming detours and lane closures:

Lane closures are typically scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. For this week, there is one 24 hour lane closure:

    April 9 - 11, 2018, at 14 Street & 90 Avenue S.W.

    • Southbound 14 Street S.W.: reduced to one lane (right-hand lane closed), just north of 90 Avenue S.W. to the end of the merge lane, south of 90 Avenue S.W. Motorists will have to yield onto southbound 14 Street S.W.

    April 9 - 13, 2018, 14 Street, between Southland Drive & 90 Avenue S.W.

    • Northbound 14 Street S.W.: the right-hand lane will be closed and 14 Street will be reduced to one lane, between Southland Drive S.W. and 90 Avenue S.W.
    • Bus pull out on 14 Street S.W. just north of 90 Avenue S.W. will be partially closed. Access for transit will still remain open.

Work happening in the next two weeks:

This month and into the spring, crews will begin piling and excavating for the underpass bridge on the south side of the 14 Street/90 Avenue S.W. intersection. There will also be ongoing work for utility relocations, street lighting and traffic lights.
