Crews continue to set up their site office and construction material storage area just east of Glenmore Landing. Work has started on the traffic light at Southland Drive/Bradbury Drive S.W. and 14 Street/Southland Drive S.W. Intersection. The next work on traffic lights will be at 14 Street/90 Avenue S.W. to accommodate the detours at the intersection, and then crews will move to 14 Street/Heritage Drive to install permanent traffic lights.
Crews are removing the existing concrete curbs at the 14 Street/90 Avenue S.W. intersection and preparing to move traffic to the north side of the intersection for the detour during construction. Residents can expect to see crews moving dirt on the south side of 90 Avenue to prepare for the detour when construction starts on the north side of 90 Avenue.
Visit the website to see the intersection design during construction this year.
While we make every effort to avoid impacts to trees as a part of construction, tree removals will continue this week where necessary along the BRT route. The City creates a tree compensation plan to replace the lost tree canopy as a part of all construction projects, and we’re working with Parks and Urban Forestry on the landscaping plan – including replanting of trees and enhancing landscaping along the route – as a part of this plan. Visit calgary.ca/swbrt for a list of where tree removal is required for construction.
The current bus stop on the north side of 90 Avenue S.W. will be relocated to the west of the first Glenmore Landing entrance. Once crews are finished the detour for the intersection, the bus stop will be moved back to its original location.
Lane closures will typically be restricted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. For the upcoming week, expected closures and detours include:
March 13 - 15, 2018 at 14 Street & 90 Avenue SW
March 14 & 15, 2018 between Heritage Drive and 75 Avenue SW
March 15 & 16, 2018 at 14 Street & 90 Avenue SW
Starting March 12 until the new turning lanes are set up at the 14 Street/90 Avenue intersection
Construction south of Glenmore Trail will be happening in different areas throughout the construction seasons. To find out when crews will be working, and where, visit calgary.ca/swbrt .
In March, crews will be focused on working on the 90 Avenue and 14 Street S.W. intersection. Trenching and piling is expected to start towards the end of the month with ongoing work for temporary lighting and traffic lights. Crews will be relocating utilities near the end of the month as well, and that work will carry on during the spring.
